Welcome to 'Visit Flintshire'

The Gateway to Wales

The County of Flintshire in North Wales U.K. - North Wales Borderlands Country - has so much to offer... a wealth of leisure and cultural activities, unspoilt countryside of immense beauty, a rich and fascinating history spanning more than seven centuries and a wide range of accommodation & friendly local pubs and restaurants.

Known as the gateway to North Wales, the county benefits from excellent road and rail links and is less than one hour from Manchester International Airport.

Flintshire is a beguiling mix of country villages, traditional market towns, sandy beaches, medieval castles and some of the most stunning scenery in North Wales. The Clwydian Range, the location of many ancient forts forms an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and contains part of the Offas Dyke footpath. The Rural Walks brochure in Flintshire features 25 of the best walks in the County.

There are many sites of historical interest such as Grade 1 listed building St Deiniol's Library in Hawarden. Britain's finest residential library, founded by minister William Gladstone in 1889, Ewloe Castle in Wepre Park and Basingwerk Cistercian Abbey alongside Greenfield Valley Heritage Park, a fascinating mix of mills and reservoirs charting the industrial past.

Finding your way around the County has been made easy because of the 83 mile Flintshire Leisure Drive. It is divided into nine diverse sections and by using the booklet and following the signs you will discover many places of interest.

Explore fascinating towns such as Mold with its street market and food & drink festival, Holywell with its market and home to St Winefrides Well one of the Seven Wonders of Wales, Flint with its medieval castle and market and Caerwys, considered to be one of the smallest towns with a Royal Charter.

The Dee estuary is of international importance where migrating birds over-winter on a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The River Dee meets the Irish Sea at Talacre, creating unspoilt beaches and sand dunes which have won yellow flag awards, perfect for family holidays.

Quality sports and leisure facilities exist from championship golf courses to ice skating, cycling and water sports, horse riding and fishing. Many of our characterful pubs offer home-cooking and refined cuisine in memorable settings where the food is often sourced from fresh local ingredients.

Wales' premier English language Theatre

There is a strong sense of culture and arts, from choirs, galleries to Welsh singing in the pubs. Clwyd Theatr Cymru at Mold is Wales major drama-producing theatre and arts centre, home to a highly acclaimed company that also presents much of its work on tour.
